Behind You Are Angels

The Story Behind the Song, “Behind you are Angels”

Some of the closest people to me in life are struggling with the once “taboo” subject of Depression. You know, I hate the word depression. It sounds so hopeless. I suppose that is what the feeling is all about, the lack of hope in life.It is so difficult to explain to someone that doesn’t have the battle with this subject just how it feels. I have in the past felt very down and alone and without hope. I have been fortunate enough to find some vehicles that have helped me tackle this and turn some things around in my life. I have created a little formula to keep perspective on my life.

I call it my “S.P.F.” I’ll tell you about it someday… it’s an acronym that stands for some amazing things. But, it’s a longer story than I’ve allocated to this section. Great stuff though and I can’t wait to share it with people. It’s really changed my life.So back to the inspiration for the song…I have watched and wondered about why we do some of the things we do. Watching people is really fun activity! Go to the mall some time and try it. What a riot! We are a unique species to say the least!

Some of us, if not all of us are a bit touchy and sensitive to the “disabilities” that we have or perceive we have. We are our own worst critic…hey look at me I took ten years to convince my self to start this album! Sometimes we hope for things and then quickly dash our hopes against the rocks of the all too familiar doubt that we, and others, have for us.

When this dear person in my life would collapse and give up on life over and over, I struggled to understand why. It made me ask the questions: Is it because we are afraid of failure? Maybe it’s because we fear success just as much. I wasn’t too sure, but I knew one thing, this person and most of us need a new question to ask ourselves. Instead of “why me?” or “why this?” it should be “who am I, and what am I here for?”

I came to a solid solution after asking myself this question. I believe that we are born for greatness! Not the “greatness” that comes from being in the spotlight or having the fame and fortune that we think will solve all of our problems. But, the greatness that comes from remembering who you really are and then rising up to be the best you can be. We are God’s children. That makes you a Princess or a Prince. See… your Daddy was right after all these years.

After watching this one person in my life struggle for so many years in life; constantly depressed and feeling hopeless, I thought it would be appropriate to write a song for that person. I sat in my studio again and prayed to know what I should say. So the lyrics came: “Be true to your self. Do you know who you are?”

So who are you anyway? No really? If there is a God and we are really on this Rock for a reason, then what are we? What is the purpose of all these little “exercises of our faith?”

You know, if there is a God and He’s organized enough to make this very complex world function, than I believe that He probably knows who we are and what we are doing here.

He hasn’t left us all alone to figure this out.

I do whole heartedly believe we are the literal Spirit Children of God. The spirit inside that body of yours, that makes you alive, was created by Him. I want to shake some people and wake them up to the fact that they are of great worth, and they are loved by a Father in Heaven that doesn’t care what their income is or how much they weigh. We sell ourselves so short of the blessings we could have if we just acknowledged the fact that; and I quote the t-shirt here, ‘God don’t make Junk.’ Forgive the bad grammar, but at least the guy that made that t-shirt got the picture!

Behind us stand Angels ready to help us and bless us. None of us will ever stand alone in this life. We are surrounded by Angels and they bless us daily. We have to do our part though. God will not force our hand. We must reach out to Him. He is there.
